Located in the Highlands near Douglass Loop, the 1600 square foot Pilates studio is equipped with a full array of traditional Pilates equipment designed to help students build flexibility and strength in ways that make Pilates different than any other form of exercise.

TODD BRASHEAR
Todd Brashear found Pilates after years of poor posture and desk work left him with a frozen shoulder. He felt immediate relief and decided that Pilates must be magic, as it was unlike any form of exercise he had ever tried. The exercises, equipment, theories, and history of the method intrigued him so much that he eventually decided to become a teacher. He recently completed the 950 hour Advanced Teacher Training program of the Pilates Center of Boulder. Todd was the owner of Wild and Woolly Video for 18 years. He also played bass on Slint’s seminal album “Spiderland”. He loves to explore the outdoors and his adventures have included trekking to the base camp of Cerro Torre in Patagonia and an attempted winter Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire. His favorite place to explore, however, is the Red River Gorge here in Kentucky. He is married with two sons.

Studio Policies

All purchases are non-refundable but are transferable.

Cancellations and rescheduling of appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance, in order to avoid a “late cancel” fee (full cost of the missed session).

Class Descriptions

All classes are for uninjured clients who are not under a Doctor’s care.

Mat-Beginner

Mat class for those who are newer to pilates. No experience necessary but client must be uninjured and not currently under a doctor’s care.

Equipment Pilates 101

Want to try our Reformer and Tower classes ? Start with Equipment Pilates 101.

This class is for new uninjured students without extensive experience using pilates equipment. New students must attend three Equipment Pilates 101 classes before joining other group equipment classes. If deemed necessary by the teacher some students may be required to complete more than three of these classes.

During each workout students will be introduced to basic pilates principles and the safe and correct use of the equipment used in group classes.

Equipment-Beginner

Equipment (Reformer, Tower, or Chair) class for those who are newer to pilates but have attended a total of at least three private lessons or three Equipment Pilates 101 classes. Equipment for each class will be chosen by the teacher based on class size and students’ needs.

Pilates is a system of exercise invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. He called it “Contrology” and it was designed for people of all ages and abilities. Regular practice leads to a longer, leaner, and more flexible body. Whether used as a person’s main form of exercise or done in addition to other pursuits, a regular Pilates practice can lead to a greater overall quality of life and increased athletic performance.

While both are considered “mind-body” forms of exercise, yoga and pilates are not the same. In general Pilates deal with a smaller range of motion and is usually done in a “flowing” manner without holding static poses. Pilates also uses equipment originally invented by Joe Pilates. The spiritual component that is usually present in yoga is not a part of Pilates. Pilates is usually done in a setting that resembles a martial arts studio or gym, without any chanting, altars, or saying “Namaste”. Many people enjoy doing Yoga and Pilates and find they work very well together.

Honestly, the best way to start is to take a few private lessons. This enables me to work with you one-on-one and develop a specific plan for achieving your goals. I know this is not financially possible for a lot of people, so my beginner mat classes or Equipment 101 classes are also good places to start. If you are injured or under a Doctor’s care, please contact me to discuss whether it would be a good idea for you to join a group class.

Much like martial arts, my training was done through teachers where there is a direct lineage to Joseph Pilates. I try to teach closer to how he might have taught, using machines he invented, and using the framework of a certain order of exercises.

Pilates is a type of exercise that can be done every day if you like, but to achieve noticeable results it is best done at least 2 or 3 times a week, mixing some mat work with equipment work. I can help you learn the skills and exercises necessary to develop a home practice in addition to the time spent at the studio. A lot of students find it beneficial to do a couple of group classes and one private lesson a week.

Comfortable clothes like what you would wear to the gym are ideal. For men, please wear sweatpants or shorts with a liner of some sort.
